Yves Borgwardt is a photographer, born in Germany. He discovered his passion for photography in his teenage years. After finishing school, he began a professional apprenticeship as a photographer in Nuremberg, which included a year working with both analog and digital printing and developing techniques. From 2007, he spent two years assisting a fashion photographer before transitioning smoothly to shooting his own assignments. As his career progressed, driven by a deep interest in art and its commercial aspects, Borgwardt pursued further studies in Art and Image History as well as Business Administration at Humboldt University in Berlin. This academic foundation enriched his approach to photography, blending his creative vision with an understanding of art’s place in the market.
Over time, Yves developed a unique style—expressive, experimental, minimal, and often conceptual—that soon led to collaborations with renowned brands and publications such as 032C, Adidas, Cartier, Conde Nast Corporate, Dyson, Fritz Hansen, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview Magazine, Levi’s, Mercedes-Benz, New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Silhouette Eyewear, Universal Music, VOGUE, and Zeit Magazin.
Yves continues to evolve as a multidisciplinary artist, demonstrating impressive versatility. His work merges elements of documentary photography, portraiture, and experimental techniques, using both analog and digital methods to craft compelling visual stories. This blend of techniques allows him to capture human experiences and emotions with remarkable depth and complexity. By experimenting with light, perspective, and diverse technical approaches, he brings out the authenticity and essence of his subjects, creating images that engage viewers both aesthetically and emotionally. His distinctive style allows him to explore his creative potential fully, capturing everyday scenes and unique moments in ways that go beyond mere representation, offering a fresh, multifaceted perspective.
His portfolio features prominent personalities such as Die Antwoord, Audrey Tautou, Beth Ditto, Billy Idol, Bob Odenkirk, Christian Friedel, Daniel Brühl, Daisy Ridley, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Gilbert & George, Grandmaster Flash, La Roux, Lizzo, Neneh Cherry, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Nicolas Jaar and Richard Linklater.
Yves was nominated for the Lead Academy’s Direction Award in Fashion Photography, and his work was showcased in the Visual Leader exhibition at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg.
